GERMANY WINS 66 STATUES AT THE 2017 LONDON INTERNATIONAL AWARDS

Philipp und Keuntje, Hamburg Wins the Digital Grand LIA
Scholz & Friends, Berlin Wins the Poster Grand LIA

LIA, one of the most prestigious awards shows in Advertising, Digital, Technology driven work, Health & Pharma and Branded Entertainment, today announced the 2017 winners. The 32nd Annual LIA judging was held at Encore at Wynn Las Vegas, convening over a 10-day period. The Juries, led by their respective Jury Presidents, viewed and scored every entry within their medium, ensuring that all the work was judged equally.

This year Germany brought home 66 of the coveted LIA statues - 2 Grand LIAs, 13 Gold, 23 Silver and 28 Bronze statues. They also attained 43 Finalists.

In total 820 LIA statues, in additional to finalists, were awarded from 40 countries with Germany ranking #4. The top countries were United States (209), United Kingdom (95), and Australia (70).

I would like to congratulate all the German Winners and Finalists. 2017 was an amazing year with some exceptional work.” stated Barbara Levy, President of LIA. “Winning a LIA Statue was no easy feat. Our highly esteemed juries worked diligently, they visited and revisited each piece of shortlisted work again and again. The winners in the 2017 LIA Awards come from a crop of work that is universally acknowledged as exceptional.  And the Grand LIA winners are without doubt, the best of the best.  So my highest congratulations to our Grand LIA and Statue Winners.”

The Digital Jury, with Per Pedersen, Chairman of Global Creative Council at Grey Global at the helm awarded the Digital Grand LIA to Philipp und Keuntje, Hamburg for the “RIMOWA Electronic Tag”. The “RIMOWA Electronic Tag was awarded three Gold Statues across two juries, one in Digital - Innovative Use of Digital and two in The NEW - Product Innovation and Technology Development categories.

Pedersen stated, “This idea stood out as the best in class example of how digital technology and design work together to create tangible brand value. In other words, the entire jury was ready to buy this product on the spot. I think some actually did! We all hate the time-consuming routines in the airport, and this idea offers a smart solution that significantly simplifies traveling. Not as an early stage thought or prototype but as a real product, you can buy now. In fact just a few hundred feet from the jury room you could walk into the Rimowa store and buy your own  beautifully designed suitcase with a build-in electronic tag. Now that’s applied creativity and what a Grand LIA looks like.”

The Poster Grand LIA was awarded to Scholz & Friends, Berlin for Der Tagesspiegel titled “Newspaper Stack - Trump”.

Eka Ruola, CEO / ECD at hasan & partners, Helsinki and member of the Ambient, Print, Poster and Billboard jury stated, “I like work that solves a real problem. It’s important for brands to act and take a stand, and be important players in society… to react fast and put on something meaningful.”

Notes to the editor:

London International Awards (LIA) is a global festival honoring creativity and new ideas in Advertising, Production, Digital, Design, Health and Pharmaceuticals, Music & Sound, Technology and Branded Entertainment. The awards, founded in 1986 by President Barbara Levy, began by honoring advertising in the realms of Cinema, Television, Print and Radio, evolving since its inception into 19 unique media types. It was the first truly international advertising awards of its kind to acknowledge all media and methods from all over the world to be judged by a diverse global jury. Every member on each Jury Panel, including the Jury President, judges all entries, excluding their own work, in their respective media. Each Jury has the discretion to award a Grand LIA within the media they are judging.
